OPA Learning Series: Surviving the “Lockdown:” Faculty Perceptions on the Impact of COVID-19 on Assessment Reporting

This presentation will discuss academic assessment reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic at Texas Tech University. We will share findings from a meta-analysis of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 assessment reports. In our analysis, we found that assessment reporting was severely impacted due to several factors: change in modality, the inadequacy of faculty to administer the assessment, change in academic priorities during the pandemic, and lack of student engagement during the pandemic. Although the majority of assessment reports cited negative reasons for limited assessment data, some faculty did report that student learning was improved due to smaller class sizes and smaller faculty-to-student ratios. Presenters will discuss implications related to these findings, and how our local assessment office can provide resources to mediate gaps in assessment reporting.
